This is very important. The truth is always right there, It took me many years of seeking and 7 more of just sitting in Tao, it seemed arduous and long, much effort on my part to attain. The truth is I never attained anything, it was always right there from the start. So this idea that “I” did something is false, all that happened is my eyes opened all on their own, it took 53 years for my eyes to open all on their own and see truth. Your eyes could open on their own any time and see truth, it’s always right there.
Here are some quotes on enlightenment or seeing truth:
And as long as you’re subject to birth and death, you’ll never attain enlightenment.Bodhidharma
This is directly related to my above statement, as long as we think there is a “self” that is opening the eye we don’t see truth, as long as we think there is a “self” we believe we begin at birth and end at death.
Do not think you will necessarily be aware of your own enlightenment.Dogen
This is true, enlightenment is very natural, the most natural place to be, it takes no effort, it is completely ordinary.
Not creating delusions is enlightenment.Bodhidharma
When we quit making the unreal real we see truth. The “self” is a figment of our of imagination, it takes an effort to maintain, it demands our focus to exist. So when we no longer maintain the image, the self disappears.
